Editorial Paper Tigers
Here’s a post by Matthew Yglesias about the meaning of campaign proposals. Included is the line
If Barack Obama campaigns as someone who takes on the hawkish Beltway CW on foreign policy, then it’s likely he’ll govern as someone who believes he has nothing to fear from the Washington Post editorial page.
It’s a good post, but I just wanted to add that no President ever, under any conditions or circumstance, regardless of party or ideology, or any other conceivable happening has anything to fear from the editorial staff of the Washington Post.
If the front page says you committed impeachable offenses you’re in as much trouble as Richard Nixon.
If the editorial staff says everybody should chill out with the impeach talk you’re still in as much trouble as Richard Nixon.
