State Level Blogs
The first session I’m attending is the state level bloggers session. Which is a little odd because I’m not actually from a state, and the typical dynamic of trying to get more and better Democrats elected is bit different in Washington DC, where the Democrats win every election. (Although there could definitely be better democrats).
I follow Virginia politics and read the Raising Kaine VA blog, but I don’t feel super connected to their issues. I’m very connected culturally to VA, but their politics are fairly abstract to me personally. I’m what the folks here would call a “lurker”.
A lot of the conversation is about the relationship between the state bloggers and the state Democratic parties. There are a lot of dynamics I’ve read about before but I’ve never rarely heard discussed.
For instance I’ve always read that the key impact online activists can have by backing progressive candidates during primaries. Here there are people that have actually backed a primary candidate that got the nomination and will likely be elected. It’s interesting to here people say the same things in person I’ve been reading on blogs for the last few years.
